HUNTSVILLE, AL – Major General James Richardson assumed command of the US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) at a Change of Command Ceremony on Redstone Arsenal, Thursday, June 12, 2014. He assumes command from Major General Lynn Collyar who is resigning at the end of the month.
Major General Richardson has led soldiers during six deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan where his most recent assignment was Deputy Commanding General, United States Forces Afghanistan and Commander of the US National Support Element.
Major General Richardson is a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Richardson is also a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky and the Rotary Wing Aviator Basic Course at Fort Rucker. He later served as an instructor at U.S. Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker. Other assignments include Commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, Executive Officer to the Army Vice Chief of Staff and Deputy Commanding General at Fort Hood, Texas.
